SME had a VERY successful fellowship & fundraiser cruise around Lake Minnetonka!
Our club was able to raise $700 for Alex Abel and his incredible goal to raise one million dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association! Take a look through the album to see all the fun we had boating & playing in the lake. Also included in the album are photos from Alex’s visit to our Club!
Fall is quickly approaching and so is our September community service event. Our club will be collecting school supplies in partnership with Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment (WISE). WISE is helping put on a school supply drive this year for families in the Summit-University & Frogtown Neighborhoods in St. Paul, and they need our help in getting supplies! Last year they handed out 250 backpacks full of school supplies to needy families and they had plenty of families left empty handed.
As a Club, we’d like to collect as many donations of new school supplies as possible. Ideas include:
- New Backpack
- Package #2 Pencils (no mechanical pencils please)
- Package Pens (blue or black ink)
- Packages Wide Ruled Paper
- Wide Rule Spiral Notebooks
- Set of 24 Crayons
- Set of Markers
- Set of Colored Pencils
- Rolls of Scotch Tape
- Tube of White Glue
- Glue Stick
- Pair Scissors
- Box of Kleenex
- ..and more!
All members are asked to bring your collected/purchased school supplies to either the August 10th or 12th meetings. You MUST have your supplies in by these dates because even though this is our September event, the backpacks need to be ready to go for the first day of school!

Join us for a day of boating FUN around Lake Minnetonka on Sunday August 8th to raise money for Alex Amble.
Alex, a young boy living with a mild form of Muscular Dystrophy, has an incredible goal to raise one million dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)! He will be speaking to our club on Tuesday August 10th at our general meeting. We want to help support his goal by throwing a fundraiser on his behalf. The cost will be $26.00 a person and will go towards boat rental fees and to support Alex.
We will be meeting at 2:45 at the Excel Boat Club in Excelsior. 2 boats will be setting sail with enough room for 28 people; please feel free to invite friends and family!
An e-vite was sent out to members of our club. Please take the time to RSVP to the invite (please reply Yes or No only). Spots will go to the first 28 people who RSVP. Please bring your own beverage. Snacks will be provided.

The first charitable event held at Target Field – the Start! Heart Walk – the premiere fundraising event for the American Heart Association, drew support from the largest corporations in town and also numerous community teams including SME Rotary! Alicia, Jeanette, Katie and Lindsey experienced the pre-walk events on Saturday, June 5 including a Mascot challenge, and heard stories from those facing cardiovascular disease. With thousands in attendance, the American Heart Association’s mission to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease was inspiring as we took to the streets of downtown in a light mist walking over a mile with others who too, have heart.
